Did you know that your levator scap muscle can refer pain and tightness up the side of your neck and down your back? That is why your massage therapist chooses to release it when you complain of tension headaches or neck and shoulder pain.
Thoracic Extension on a Foam Roller
Not only does this exercise feel awesome but it's great for neck and shoulder tightness. It takes your body in the opposite way to how it goes when you sit for extended periods of time in poor posture. Poor posture changes the alignment of your spine, can cause your muscles to remain in stretch and shorten others. These changes can all contribute to headaches as well and neck and shoulder tightness.
Pec Stretch
Pecs are a forgotten muscle when it comes to neck and shoulder tightness. When they get tight they pull your shoulders forward which changes how your shoulders tight. This in return changes the length of muscles like your upper traps causing them to feel tight. This is why we already recommend Pec stretches when you have neck and shoulder tightness.
